This image was created to illustrate my collaborative column with John Gierach in the Winter 2023 issue of Trout magazine. The essay titled, “All the Time in the World”, takes place on the upper Colorado River and depicts my friend wading what might be thought of as a perfect piece of trout water.
The painting was executed with a very limited palette of just five tubes of paint; yellow, black, blue, Van Dyke brown, and umber foundation (a warm substitute for white). It was an interesting exercise and has changed how I approach future paintings.
