I’ve spent a lot of time flying in floatplanes and am intrigued with painting the aerial landscapes of Southwest Alaska.
From the air, the scale of the countryside below is immense, and the effect of the weather upon it is often spectacular and dramatic. As storms pass, and the clouds are torn away from the mountains, the sky’s reflected light appears to float in pools across the shadowed terrain.
This is a scene I’ve witnessed countless times, and it never fails to impress and inspire me.
