Details

I’m fortunate to live just short paddle away from an expansive marsh with a labyrinth of channels and shallow bays. It’s not necessarily the best duck hunting spot in the world, but once the weather turns cold and the snow begins to fall I generally have it all to myself, and I can find the quiet solitude I need to refresh my soul.

This image was painted to illustrate an essay I wrote about choosing not to hunt waterfowl for a season. In the essay I reflect on all of the little, seemingly insignificant things that I missed that fall and winter.

One of those was the quiet sound of falling snow.

The essay and this painting appear in the November/December 2019 issue of Shooting Sportsman magazine. The oil painting on stretched canvas measures 36 x 30 inches.
