The dawn came late, hidden behind driven snow, and the wind kept the birds comfortably on their roost until you thought you’d never feel your feet again. But the numbing cold is forgotten when you hear the lonely calls above the howl of the storm. From out of nowhere they appear, specter-like above the decoys. It will be a long, cold walk home, but you’ll do it with a smile.
