I was recently commissioned by the Wild Salmon Center to create an image to celebrate the imminent demise of the Pebble Mine and its threat to the Bristol Bay watershed. The painting was to be quintessentially “Bristol Bay”.
I scoured my archive of photography, nearly forty years of captures, and couldn’t find quite the right image to paint. So, I turned to my friend Michael Melford, whom I’d met while working at Tikchik Narrows Lodge. Michael kindly sent me a plethora of images with his permission to paint whichever I chose.
The process of painting this image was soul-nourishing, and just what I needed. The resulting painting was unveiled in September 2023 at Crystal Creek Lodge.
Lisa and I are pleased to offer fine art prints of this image, with 25% of the profits from all sales donated to the Wild Salmon Center to continue its efforts to preserve, in perpetuity, the wonder that is Bristol Bay.
